Ryuta Kawashima Refuses Brain Age Money

This is interesting.

Ryuta Kawashima donates his Brain Age game royalties to college construction.

Giving up that kind of money to fund a school is honorable and an example of what every successful business should aspire to do.

This is the only thing I have a slight problem with:

“My hobby is work,” he said. “Everyone in my family is mad at me but I tell them that if they want money, go out and earn it.”

I don’t know what he means here. Is he saying he wouldn’t share money with his family? Is he saying if you want to get rich then work hard? I’m not going to tell anyone what they can or can’t do with their own money, but I’d hope they’d realize that working for someone doesn’t make you rich unless you are in a very sought after industry and the market share is huge. Even then, you’d struggle up the corporate ladder with other cubical monkeys, while the real money is in the pockets of the ladder owners.

Your best bet for riches is in investing in your own business or in other businesses. One of my dreams is to start a venture capital company and invest in start ups. That’s a few years away, but I would have taken the 11 mil Kawashima got and stared a VC group. In the long run, that would have benefited more people and the economy.

[...] Co-developer of Brain Age gave all royalties to Tohoku University. - Ah… $6.5 million, I wish I could say “no” to that. [...]
